Clarity for Life with PKU

Together with Vitaflo®, a leader in medical nutrition, I worked on Vitapp concept app that helps people living with phenylketonuria (PKU) manage their daily routine with more confidence and ease.

From Idea to Fully Shaped Experience

Vitaflo® creates specialized nutritional products for people with metabolic conditions and chronic illnesses. Vitapp was meant to extend this support into the digital world, giving patients a tool to track meals, monitor test results and plan their routines in one place.

This was my project from start to finish. I designed the flows, the interface, the design system and the motion elements. The app focused on three key areas:

• Meal monitoring with gram-level accuracy.
• Phenylalanine tracking with a clear chart view of results.
• Calendar with an advanced event creator for planning.

Because managing PKU requires absolute precision, I created a design system that could handle a lot of complex data while staying consistent and easy to use. I also worked on mood and visual direction so that the app felt supportive, not clinical.

Turning a strict routine into an approachable product

Designing Vitapp was not just about creating a few nice looking screens. The app required a complete flow that covered dozens of different use cases. In the end, I designed over 90 screens across iOS and Android, each tailored to support different stages of the user journey from logging meals and scheduling tests to reviewing results and setting reminders.

The challenge was to translate highly medical, data-heavy content into interfaces that patients could use daily without frustration. Every gram of nutritional value had to be accounted for, every result needed to be stored and visualized clearly, and the event creator had to handle multiple scenarios without confusing the user.

Another complexity came from the design system. It had to be flexible enough to support future modules, yet strict enough to guarantee consistency across 30+ different flows. I also had to plan for states that users encounter less frequently empty states, error states, edge cases all of which play a critical role in a medical context.

What made this project unique was the balance between precision and accessibility. I had to design tools for absolute accuracy while keeping the experience warm, supportive, and human. It was a constant exercise in simplifying complexity without losing reliability.

A system that supports patients day to day

Vitapp became a connected system of tools. The meal module gives users precise control over their diet, the phenylalanine chart provides a clear picture of progress, and the calendar helps organize daily routines. I built a flexible design system that holds everything together and leaves room for future growth. Motion and micro-interactions bring warmth and reduce the sense of burden that often comes with medical apps.

This project was a complete solo responsibility from UX research to interface design, motion, illustration and the design system. The result is a product vision that translates Vitaflo’s medical expertise into a human digital experience. Vitapp shows how design can help people manage PKU with more structure and peace of mind.
