A prehistoric Experience Online
BrexWerx Games, founded by two lifelong gamers and science enthusiasts, turned their passion into Holotype a board game that blends fun with the science of paleontology. As a dinosaur fan myself, I had the pleasure of designing their entire e-commerce platform from scratch, bringing together the worlds of science, dinosaurs, and play into one engaging online space.

Blending Science, Dinosaurs, and Design
This project was a designer’s dream. BrexWerx needed a complete online presence for their new board game brand, and I was entrusted with creating the entire experience as a solo designer. The scope covered everything from UX and UI design for desktop and mobile, to custom illustrations, iconography, and a flexible design system tailored to the needs of a growing game publisher.
The website had to serve as more than just a store — it needed to reflect the brand’s deep connection to science and paleontology while also capturing the sense of fun and excitement of playing Holotype. To achieve this, I designed playful yet detailed visuals inspired by fossils and fieldwork, while keeping the structure user-friendly and optimized for conversions.
It was a full-service design collaboration:
E-commerce store design built from scratch, optimized for game sales and expansions.
Custom illustrations that gave the brand a unique, science-meets-adventure identity.
Responsive design for both web and mobile, ensuring smooth experience across devices.
Flexible page templates that allow the client to grow their store without breaking consistency.
A tailored design system that makes it easy for other designers or marketers to maintain brand consistency.
The collaboration was not only highly creative but also rewarding on a personal level. The BrexWerx team was thrilled with the outcome, and the design became a cornerstone of their marketing and community-building efforts.
From Fossils to Flows
Every project comes with challenges, and this one pushed me to balance creativity with precision:
Tight timeline: I had only a few weeks to design and deliver a complete online store, from wireframes to polished visuals.
High screen count: Over 50 unique screens were designed across desktop and mobile to cover product pages, checkout flows, landing sections, and custom illustrations.
Custom art direction: The client wanted illustrations that merged science accuracy with playful design — a unique challenge that required creating visuals that felt both credible and fun.
Solo responsibility: As the only designer on the project, I was responsible for UX research, UI design, illustrations, prototyping, and preparing everything for development.
Consistency with brand spirit: The website had to balance two worlds: the seriousness of science and the joy of gaming, without leaning too heavily in one direction.
Despite these challenges, the process was exciting and dynamic. Each obstacle became an opportunity to push the creative boundaries of what an e-commerce store for a board game publisher could look like.
A Website as Engaging as the Game Itself
The result was a fully designed e-commerce platform that not only supports sales but also tells the story of BrexWerx and their love for dinosaurs.
Highlights of the outcome:
50+ unique screens designed across web and mobile.
Custom illustration system that gives the brand a distinctive and recognizable look.
Responsive design delivering seamless experience across devices.
Bounce rate reduced by an estimated 18% (based on test group feedback).
Checkout flow optimized for quick purchase, leading to early positive conversion metrics from the first campaigns.
The final product was a site that both delighted the client and resonated with their audience. For me, it was a chance to combine professional skills with personal passion — creating a digital space where dinosaurs, science, and design meet.
